GAM have a good relationship with some key players in the potato industry like Sobeys, Cavendish Produce and Earthfresh. Today they pack 25 million poundsof potatoes a year and hire about 20 persons. The company then goes under the name : Les Fermes GAM Michaud Farms Inc. In 1996, they want to extend their market and client opportunity and invest in grading, washing and packing equipment. This kind of rotation is important for the soil’s and crop’s quality. Together they bought more land and were now able to develop a good crop rotation of one year out of tree for potatoes. His son Marcel and wife, Louise Desilets then joined the two in 1991 after completing their studies in agronomy at université Laval. In 1960, they start to contract their potatoes to the new Mccain plant where potatoes are being processed. They were then growing 275 acres of potatoes and 1000 acres of grain. They continue to grow their lands by buying from other neighbors and relocate the farm a bit more on top of the hill, where today still stand the main farm buildings. So with the help and support of his wife, Anne Leclerc, they bought the family farm, sold the animals and gradually transformed the mixed farm to a potato and cereal producing farm. Later on, Narcisse’s son, Gilbert saw the potential in specializing the farm in potato growing. Thanks to the improvement of the mechanization, tractors made their way in the field around 1950 and made the farm activities easier to accomplish. Narcisse then married Adelia Vaillancourt in 1937 and had 8 kids. Bélonie and his son, Narcisse, were then able to extend their land to 365 acres when the surroundings were purchased. As the years went by, a lot of neighbors sold their lands and moved in town where life was getting more convenient. He build a house (the one on the picture above which served the family for almost 100 years), he married Jane Michaud and he had 15 kids.

Married to Marguerite Desjardins, they have 9 kids and the oldest, Bélonie Michaud, takes over the farm later on. He clears the land and start to farm and raise animals. I t’s then around 1863 that François Michaud, son of Isaac Michaud and Suzanne Sansfacon-Consigny (from Saint-Basile), settled near the Little River on a 34 acres piece of land. Each pieces of land was granted to the settlers who needed to clear the land in order to settle down and cultivate the land. Around 1851, while the north-west of New-Brunswick was being colonized, the region of Saint-André was being surveyed and divided in 50 to 100 acres pieces of land.
